Theaters Honor Shadow Box Tickets
When Shadow Box Productions recently canceled the three remaining shows in its series of musicals at El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, it looked as if the 2,030 subscribers might have to sacrifice tickets that cost about $80 or $90 per subscriber.
Other theater companies, however, have agreed to honor the Shadow Box tickets.
The Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency and the Valley Theatre League, a San Fernando Valley association of theaters, will send Shadow Box subscribers new tickets that can be used at a variety of sub-100-seat theaters in North Hollywood.
The participating theaters are Antaeus, Actors Forum, Actors Workout, Bitter Truth Playhouse, Group Repertory, Raven Playhouse, Theatre Unlimited, Whitmore-Lindley, Players’ Space, Secret Rose and Zombie Joe’s. Additional theaters are expected to join the list.
The tickets must be used by the end of 2002, and the theaters require ticket-holders to make reservations. The Community Redevelopment Agency and Valley Theatre League will partially reimburse participating theaters.
In separate deals, the Colony Theatre in Burbank and venues in Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach used by the Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities are also offering to accept Shadow Box tickets.
The collapse of the Shadow Box season will not affect other productions at El Portal.
