* Cooper Cos. Inc., a Lake Forest-based manufacturer of specialty health-care products, reported that first-quarter net income rose 49% to $9.4 million, or 61 cents a share, from $6.3 million, or 43 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 16% to $58.1 million.
* Micro General Corp., a Santa Ana designer of escrow software programs, said its fourth-quarter operating income fell to $2.9 million, or 17 cents a share, from $5.9 million, or 37 cents a share, a year earlier. The latest earnings figure excluded a loss of $4.7 million from discontinued operations and disposing of discontinued operations. Revenue rose 31% to $34.4 million.
* Rainbow Technologies Inc., an Irvine provider of Internet security products, said net income for the fourth quarter totaled $1.7 million, or 6 cents a share, up 6% from $1.6 million, or 6 cents a share, for the year-earlier period. Revenue declined 28% to $31.7 million.
* Cardiac Science Inc., an Irvine manufacturer of defibrillators and patient monitors, incurred a fourth-quarter net loss of $5.8 million, or 10 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $7.4 million, or 30 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue climbed to $7.8 million from $1.5 million.
* Host Marriott Corp., owner of Marriott, Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton hotels, said fourth-quarter profit fell 73% to $42 million, or 16 cents a share, as travel dropped after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
