Center Chris Burgess, Utah’s leading scorer and rebounder, will be out at least a month and possibly for the rest of the season because of an injury to his right foot, school officials said.

The fifth-year senior suffered a tear in the plantar fascia, tendon-like tissue at the bottom of the foot, five minutes into Saturday’s victory against Texas.

“Burgess has been playing very well. I feel bad for the kid,” Coach Rick Majerus said. “He’s been trying to work really hard.”

Texas has lost leading scorer Chris Owens for the season after the forward suffered a torn ligament in his right knee.

Owens was injured in Saturday’s loss to Utah when he was slightly undercut and landed awkwardly.
