Probe Ends of Church’s Settlement in Abuse Case
From Times Wire Reports
A $450,000 settlement the Milwaukee Archdiocese paid to a former theology student who claimed he was sexually abused by Archbishop Rembert Weakland was legal, authorities said.
The money came from the archdiocese’s real estate account, which holds funds from property sales, according to an inquiry. The probe had looked at whether the archdiocese solicited money for another purpose and instead used it for the payout to Paul Marcoux. “Because the money was unrestricted, we are closing our inquiry,” said U.S. Atty. Steven Biskupic.
