Activist’s Term Criticized by U.S., Rights Group

A man with joint Egyptian and American citizenship was sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted of misusing European Union grants and tarnishing Egypt’s image.
The verdict was quickly criticized by the U.S., Amnesty International and defendant Saad Eddin Ibrahim, an academic and rights activist who said he would appeal.
