DJ Gets Prison Term in Sex Case

A popular Spanish-language radio personality was sentenced Thursday to three years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to charges that he committed lewd acts on two 14-year-old girls he met through his show.

Firmo Martin Rossetti, known as morning host Hector Rocksetti on Century City-based KLYY-FM (107.1), originally was charged with two dozen felony counts of child molestation, rape and oral copulation and could have faced as much as 30 years in prison, said James Goldstein, his attorney.

“I’m satisfied,” Deputy Dist. Atty. Natalie Adomian said of the sentence. “He used his position as a radio announcer to gain these kids’ trust and take advantage of them.”

Bolivian-born Rossetti, 38, will almost certainly be deported after he serves his term, Adomian said. Rossetti must also register as a sex offender and pay restitution for the psychiatric services of one of the girls, according to Burbank Superior Court Judge Chesley McKay’s sentence.

Rossetti, who wore an orange Los Angeles County Jail jumpsuit and spoke through a Spanish interpreter, has worked with the radio station for five years and, before that, worked at other Spanish-language stations, Goldstein said.

Authorities said the girls were frequent callers to the radio station. Rossetti, a Burbank resident, allegedly promised he would help one of the girls get into the radio business. Instead, he lured her into having an inappropriate relationship and, a short time later, another girl said she had the same experience with Rossetti, police said.

Rossetti was arrested on Feb. 27 and has been in custody since then.

Although Goldstein continued to maintain Thursday that some of the allegations against his client were false, he said Rossetti acknowledged his mistakes.

“He was willing to step up to the plate and admit” them, Goldstein said.
