Company Appeals in Effort to Mine Gravel
The company planning a massive gravel mine outside Santa Clarita has appealed to the state in an attempt to reverse Los Angeles County supervisors’ rejection of the project last month.
Cemex, the parent company of Transit Mixed Concrete Co., instigated an appeal with the State Mining and Geology Board on Wednesday. The company claims the county has “limited discretion” over the project, which would extract 77 million tons of federally owned sand and gravel from Soledad Canyon, and has already received federal approval.
The state board has 15 days to decide if it has jurisdiction.
