Assisted Suicide Advocate Dies
From Times Wire Reports
Diane Pretty, a terminally ill woman who fought unsuccessfully to have her husband help her commit suicide, has died, her family said. She was 43.
Pretty, who suffered from motor neuron disease, died Saturday at a hospice in central England, said her husband, Brian. She had been experiencing breathing difficulties.
Pretty, who was paralyzed from the neck down, fought for her husband to be given legal immunity if he helped her die. Suicide is legal in Britain, but helping someone else commit suicide is punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
