BellSouth to Slash 4,000 to 5,000 Jobs

BellSouth Corp. said it would eliminate 4,000 to 5,000 jobs after sales fell.
The company said it would have expenses of $250 million to $300million to cut as much as 5.8% of its staff. Most of the reductions are expected to come from voluntary departures. The company’s payroll was 85,742 in March.
Shares of Atlanta-based BellSouth fell 31 cents to $33.19 on the New York Stock Exchange.
