Disneyland Workers Await Paychecks

From Times Staff Reports

Disneyland employees who rely on paychecks instead of direct deposits did not get paid on time this past week because of problems with mail delivery, Disney officials confirmed Saturday.

Some employees, who are accustomed to receiving their paychecks by mail on Wednesday, still had not been paid by late Saturday afternoon, even after they were told they could pick up their checks at the theme park.

“I was told to come back in four to six hours and the check would be ready,” said a restaurant worker who declined to give her name on Saturday. “That was 48 hours ago and I still have not received my check.”

Janice Sindoni, a spokeswoman for Disney, said the number of affected workers was small.

Several hundred workers milled around outside a Disneyland security office between 6 p.m. and midnight Friday, waiting to get paid. But they left empty-handed, one worker said.

Sindoni said the checks were sent to the Anaheim post office as usual but were not delivered.

“This has really messed up a lot of people,” the restaurant worker said. She said she had to borrow money to pay for prescription drugs for her 7-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter.
