Teen Is Arrested in Prom-Night Carjacking
PENNSYLVANIA
A teenager who needed a car to take his girlfriend to the prom held up a teacher at gunpoint and rode away in her sport-utility vehicle, police said.
“I don’t have credit, so I couldn’t ... [rent] a car. I wasn’t thinking straight,” Brian Njau, 18, said from the Berks County Prison, where he was being held on suspicion of robbery and aggravated assault.
Njau allegedly used a friend’s unloaded BB gun to coerce a teacher to surrender her SUV Friday as she left school in Reading. Police found the car Saturday morning at a hotel where Njau and friends had gone after the prom.
