Lawmakers OK Building of Fifth Nuclear Reactor
From Times Wire Reports
Finland decided to construct a controversial new nuclear reactor to meet rising energy demand, becoming the first Western European nation in more than a decade to agree to build an atomic energy plant.
Parliament supported, by a vote of 107 to 92, the coalition government’s proposal to construct a fifth nuclear power station to guarantee long-term energy supplies, cut dependence on Russia and meet “greenhouse gas” targets.
The anti-nuclear lobby has criticized the plan, saying it ignores health and security risks.
