Yorba Linda Fire Expected to Be Fully Contained Today; No Homes Damaged
Orange County fire officials Thursday credited well-prepared Yorba Linda residents and quick-acting firefighters with successfully battling an erratic, fast-moving brush fire that could have caused much more damage than it did.
“The cooperation of the community gave us a very big benefit and paid a very big dividend,” said Dennis Shell of the Orange County Fire Authority.
By late Thursday, he said, the fire -- which started about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Yorba Linda’s Blue Gum Drive -- had burned 476 acres of grassland, all but 68 of them in Chino Hills State Park. The fire was 80% contained, with full containment expected by 8 a.m. today.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
About 30 Yorba Linda homes were threatened by the blaze; Shell said the fire burned to within a few hundred feet of some but none was damaged.
One firefighter, airlifted off a hillside Wednesday for treatment of heat exhaustion and dehydration, was in stable condition Thursday at UCI Medical Center, Shell said.
