Officers Rescue Woman From Burning Home
Two Los Angeles police officers rescued an 83-year-old woman from her burning home Friday, authorities said.
Officers Andrew Kukla and Yusoff Thaimas were driving on the 101 Freeway about 2:45 a.m. when they saw smoke billowing from a home in the 4700 block of Mary Ellen Avenue, said a Fire Department spokesman. From the front lawn, the woman’s husband directed officers to his wife, who was unconscious in the living room.
She was later listed in critical condition at Sherman Oaks Hospital. The officers were treated for smoke inhalation.
It took firefighters 18 minutes to extinguish the fire, which had been caused by a defective lamp cord.
