Colorado’s Ochs to Sit Out Season
Colorado quarterback Craig Ochs has decided not to play again this season after suffering his third concussion in the last year.
Ochs hasn’t played since he was hurt against San Diego State on Sept. 7. Extensive medical tests came back normal but Ochs told Coach Gary Barnett on Monday that he won’t play the rest of the season for the Buffaloes (2-2).
Ochs, a junior who has started since his freshman year, will apply for a medical waiver redshirt for this season. He also will withdraw as a student from Colorado and relinquish his athletic scholarship.
In a statement, Ochs said he will reevaluate his options for returning to play football next season.
“I was very surprised,” Barnett said. “We totally respect his decision and it was a family decision all the way. He wants to pull himself out and see if he can get himself healthy.”

Georgia Tech junior tailback Tony Hollings, a converted safety leading the nation in rushing, is out for the season because of a torn knee ligament. Hollings rushed for 633 yards and 11 touchdowns in four games, but tests Monday confirmed the damage.

Senior Ahmaad Galloway, Alabama’s leading rusher the last two seasons, will miss the rest of his senior year because of a knee injury. The injury ends Galloway’s college career because he has used his redshirt year.... South Carolina State running back Derek Watson was suspended by Coach Buddy Pough, a day after his arrest for reckless driving. Pough did not want to discuss whether Watson would take part in practices or team activities during the suspension, according to spokesman Bill Hamilton.... Kentucky gave Coach Guy Morriss a contract guaranteed through 2007, rewarding him for the team’s first 4-0 start in 18 years.
