Six of the 10 highest-grossing films released this year are comedies, including “Bringing Down the House” and “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” which became the first and second films bowing in 2003 to cross the $100-million mark.

“The Pianist,” fresh from picking up Academy Awards for best actor, director and adapted screenplay, grossed $2.5 million at 773 venues over the weekend for a per-theater average of $3,177. It has now grossed $23.6 million after 14 weeks.

Other films in more limited release included “Bend It Like Beckham,” which grossed $655,741 at 46 theaters for a $14,255 per-theater average; “Assassination Tango,” $64,474 at seven theaters for a $9,211 per-theater average; “Raising Victor Vargas,” $33,166 at two New York theaters for a $16,583 average; and “The Good Old Naughty Days,” $7,359 on one screen.
