A Corporate Double Take
The boards of directors are similar and are often thought of as being the same, but NASCAR and the International Speedway Corp. are separate entities.
NASCAR is privately owned by the France family and conducts Winston Cup racing and competition at around 125 tracks, among them Irwindale Speedway, Cajon Speedway in El Cajon, and Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield. It has 50,000 members.
ISC is publicly owned and owns and/or operates 12 major motorsports facilities, among them the Daytona International Speedway and California Speedway. It was originally incorporated as Bill France Racing Inc., and is listed on Nasdaq as ISCA.
