L.A. Deputy Pleads Not Guilty in DUI Fatality

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy pleaded not guilty Thursday to a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while driving intoxicated in connection with a fatal crash in Costa Mesa.
Phil Marshall Steyerman, 28, of Ladera Ranch was charged with the felony for a Jan. 12 crash that killed his best friend, David W. Robison.
Steyerman lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a tree, prosecutors said. He had a blood-alcohol level of .17% at the time of the accident, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Camille Hill. The legal limit is .08%.
