Actress Held in Shoplifting at Department Store
Actress Shelley Morrison, who plays the maid Rosario Salazar on the television situation comedy “Will & Grace,” has been arrested on suspicion of felony shoplifting, Los Angeles police said Friday.
Morrison, 66, was booked under the name Rachel Dominguez and released after she posted $20,000 bail, Officer Don Cox said.
The theft allegedly occurred Wednesday at Robinsons-May in the Westside Pavilion on Pico Boulevard at Overland Avenue, Cox said.
Store security personnel arrested Morrison and officers booked her at the Van Nuys jail, Cox said.
The officer added that police didn’t know what Morrison was accused of trying to take because the case was being handled by Robinsons-May security officials.
“We are just processing,” Cox said.
To be booked for felony grand theft, he said, the value of the items would have to be more than $400.
Morrison was born Rachel Mitrani in the Bronx, N.Y.
Since the 1960s, she has appeared on stage and television and in movies.
Her television credits include Sister Sixto, the Puerto Rican nun struggling with English on ABC’s “The Flying Nun.”
On “Will & Grace” she plays the Salvadoran maid of socialite Karen Walker.
At one point Walker arranged a marriage between Rosario and Karen’s gay friend Jack to prevent the maid’s deportation.
Morrison is married to author Walter Dominguez.
