You Know, Ben Howland Is Winless in Westwood

I met Dan Guerrero at a function in New Orleans during the Final Four. A friend and I introduced ourselves as longtime UCLA fans, and Dan smiled and said, “You will love these guys,” referring to his new hires.

Then we met Kevin White, the Notre Dame athletic director, who gave Ben Howland an absolutely rave review after having worked with him at Northern Arizona.

Then I heard Howland talk about his childhood memories of UCLA and how much the school means to him and I could relate.

I get the feeling that next time I see Dan and Ben at the Final Four, I’ll have a much bigger rooting interest.

If Donny Daniels had faith in his abilities, he would have stayed at Fullerton, won 20 games and moved directly on to a superior Division I program after next season. Apparently he lacked that faith.

If Jim Harrick wants to cleanse his reputation, all he needs to do is take the coaching job at Fullerton and take the Titans to the NCAA tournament. Everyone in Southern California knows Fullerton doesn’t have any money to cheat.
