Q has a New Year’s date downtown
Grammy-winning musician-producer-arranger Quincy Jones will help organize a Legends of Los Angeles Pop concert slated for New Year’s Eve to be held downtown, Billboard reports. The concert is part of efforts to revitalize the downtown area and will involve multiple stages with various performers, none of whom has been confirmed.
“We hope the acts will appeal to a broad range of age groups,” said Carol Schatz, president of organizing group the Downtown Center Business Improvement District.

New Year’s concert--An item published Aug. 8 in the Quick Takes column incorrectly stated that Quincy Jones will help organize a Legends of Los Angeles Pop concert planned for New Year’s Eve in downtown Los Angeles. Jones’ charity, the Listen Up Foundation, will be a beneficiary of proceeds from the concert, but Jones will not be involved in organizing the event.
Organizers are hoping to draw 30,000 people, which would reverse the trend of poor turnouts in previous attempts at New Year’s Eve events in the downtown area.
