9 Noncitizen Workers Arrested at Burbank Airport
Federal immigration authorities have arrested nine employees at Burbank Airport who had criminal records or did not have legal permission to work in the United States.
The employees, all noncitizens, held positions involving security, baggage handling and parking.
The arrests were made within the last two weeks by agents from the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement as part of a nationwide effort to improve airport security, said Lorraine Brown, the bureau’s interim special agent in charge in Los Angeles. The bureau is part of the Department of Homeland Security.
“We must see to it that those who have access to secure areas of our airports are worthy of the trust the public places in them,” Brown said.
