U.S. Will Allow Imports of Beef but Not Cows
From Times Wire Reports
The United States said it would allow imports of some low-risk Canadian beef, representing 40% of normal trade, as early as the end of the month. It kept the door closed to live cattle for now. The meat was banned by about 30 countries after a Canadian cow was found to have bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or “mad cow” disease, in May.
Canada’s beef industry has lost up to $720 million because of the ban.
