Lock-Down Follows Escape Attempt
From Times Staff Reports
Inmates in the Twin Towers Jail were placed under lock-down Monday night after deputies discovered an apparent escape attempt, authorities said.
About 8:30 p.m., deputies saw that the air-conditioning vents in Tower One had been broken into, said Deputy Bill Spear, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department. Deputies also heard voices coming from the vents.
Three inmates who had gotten into the vents eventually “backed out rather than go through with it,” Sgt. Rick Myers said. All inmates were accounted for, and the lock-down was called off.
