Three years’ probation for Weiland

Rocker Scott Weiland has been sentenced to three years’ probation as a result of his arrest in May on felony drug possession charges. The singer for Stone Temple Pilots and, more recently, Velvet Revolver, will be required to continue counseling and rehabilitation sessions and submit to random drug tests.

Weiland went to prison in 1999 after repeatedly violating probation and failing to finish court-ordered drug rehab programs. He was arrested in May in Burbank during a routine traffic stop and later charged with cocaine and heroin possession.

Velvet Revolver, which also includes Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum along with David Kushner, was scheduled to issue an EP shortly but has shelved that in favor of working on a full-length album. The group has no record contract.
