41 Pro-Taliban Fighters Are Freed
From Times Wire Reports
Pakistan freed 41 men who had fought for Afghanistan’s former Taliban rulers and been detained on suspicion they might have ties to terrorist groups, an official said.
The Pakistanis were arrested in neighboring Afghanistan after a U.S.-led coalition toppled the Taliban in 2001, but the Afghan government returned them to Pakistan in May. Pakistani officials said they determined the men had no links to terrorists.
Thousands of Pakistanis went to Afghanistan to fight alongside the Taliban.
