Governor, 19 Others Killed in Copter Crash
From Times Wire Reports
The governor of Russia’s oil-rich Sakhalin region and 19 other people were killed in a helicopter crash, officials said after the wreckage was found following a three-day search.
The search for the helicopter, found on a remote hillside, had been hampered by bad weather in Russia’s Far East. Traffic controllers lost track of the craft flying from the Kamchatka Peninsula to an island in the Kurils chain in the Pacific.
Among the dead were Gov. Igor Farkhutdinov and top regional officials.
