Woman Dies in Crash; Irvine Man Jailed
An Irvine man was arrested on suspicion of murder late Friday after running from the scene of a traffic accident that left a motorcyclist dead, authorities said.
Jonathan Paul Michael Barber, 24, is believed to have been intoxicated when his car struck the rear of a motorcycle ridden by Carla Denise Olson, 43, according to a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol.
Olson, of Yorba Linda, was westbound on Irvine Boulevard near Laguna Canyon Road, following her hus- band, Wayne David Olson, 45, who was riding another motorcycle when the accident occurred about 10:20 p.m. Friday.
The impact pushed Carla Olson’s motorcycle into a fence, tossing her onto the roadway, where she was badly hurt.
Despite her husband’s efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center in Orange, the spokeswoman said.
Barber left his car and fled on foot.
He was arrested about an hour later hitchhiking on Irvine Boulevard near Fairbanks Street.
After being treated for minor injuries at Western Medical Center-Anaheim, Barber was booked into Orange County Jail, according to the spokeswoman.
The accident is under investigation.
