Intel Corp. plans to build a $200-million plant in Chengdu, China, for testing and assembling semiconductors.

Intel, the world’s biggest computer-chip maker, will employ 675 people at the plant, which will package and test electronic chips to produce finished semiconductors, the company said in an e-mailed news release.

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company is investing in overseas plants and offices to take advantage of lower wages and an increasing appetite for electronics.
