D.A. to Recommend a February Execution
San Bernardino County Dist. Atty. Michael Ramos announced Monday that his office will recommend Feb. 10 as the execution date for Kevin Cooper, convicted of the grisly 1983 murders of a married Chino Hills couple, their daughter and a house guest.
Cooper, 45, is due in San Diego County Superior Court on Dec. 17 for a hearing in which Judge William Kennedy is scheduled to set the execution date no more than 60 days after the hearing.
Cooper was the first state prisoner to seek post-conviction DNA testing, but state Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer said the test evidence, including a blood drop found outside the bedroom of the couple, Douglas and Peggy Ryen, linked Cooper to the murders.
Cooper has exhausted all of his possible appeals, the district attorney said in a prepared statement.
