Former Inglewood police officer Jeremy J. Morse was arrested in El Segundo over the Thanksgiving weekend on suspicion of drunk driving, police said.

Morse gained nationwide notoriety in July 2002 after being caught on tape slamming a teenager against a patrol car. His retrial on an assault charge is scheduled for next year. The first jury deadlocked.

In this case, El Segundo police officers stopped Morse on a traffic violation near Sepulveda Boulevard and Grand Avenue about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Sgt. Carlos Mendoza said. The officers conducted a field sobriety test and arrested Morse on suspicion of driving under the influence, Mendoza said.

Morse was booked at the El Segundo police station and was released a few hours later on his own recognizance. He could face one year in county jail if convicted of misdemeanor drunken driving. He is set to appear in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Jan. 20 in the case.
