Singing the Praises of Home-Grown Opera
Re “Fandom of the Opera,” Nov. 29: For those opera fans who can’t afford the airfare to Europe there is a home-grown alternative that shouldn’t be missed. The Full Circle Opera Project, a program of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, has performed “Tales of Hoffman,” “Beggar’s Opera” and “Alcina,” among others. The program director was house mezzo-soprano at the Music Center with L.A. Opera for seven years. Performing Arts magazine said, “The passion of these young performers leapt across the footlights and grabbed the audience by the throat” (August 2000). Whether you’re new to opera or a “Ringhead,” check out this incredibly talented group right here in our own backyard.
