Man Shot by Police After Pursuit on Foot in Encino

An unidentified man was shot and injured during a police foot chase in Encino on Friday night, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The shooting occurred at about 10 p.m. on Ventura Boulevard near Balboa Boulevard. Television news footage showed the man collapsed in the street with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. A handgun lay on the asphalt yards away.
“There was a shooting and one person was hit, but no officers were injured,” said LAPD spokesman Don Cox. “We don’t know what precipitated the shooting yet.”
