Rookie running back Willis McGahee of the Buffalo Bills could make his NFL debut Sunday against the New York Jets.

“Willis had a good week of work. He practiced with our offense every day this week,” Coach Gregg Williams said. “We’ll go down to the final warm-up before we make a decision.”

McGahee has been practicing with the team since mid-October and was activated Nov. 5, but this is the first week Williams has considered putting him in the lineup.

The former Miami star underwent knee surgery after being injured during the Hurricanes’ loss to Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl in January. Before being hurt, McGahee, selected 23rd overall in the draft, was considered a top-three pick.

Buffalo quarterback Drew Bledsoe, meanwhile, says he is ready to play after shaking off the effects of a blow to the head that briefly knocked him unconscious last Sunday.

Bledsoe sat out practice Wednesday after complaining of dizziness.

Quarterback David Carr and running back Domanick Davis of the Houston Texans did not practice, leaving in doubt their availability for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Carr, who has a right shoulder injury, was limited to some light throwing. Rookie Dave Ragone ran the team in practice and will start if Carr is unable to play. Davis has a bruised right thigh.

Ragone has not taken a regular-season snap but became the backup when Tony Banks suffered a broken right hand last Sunday.

Tim Hasselbeck will start at quarterback for the Washington Redskins against the Giants on Sunday because Patrick Ramsey is sidelined by a right foot injury.... Kansas City running back Larry Johnson pleaded innocent to charges that he threatened a former girlfriend with a gun and hit her. Johnson has played sparingly as a rookie this season, with nine carries for 33 yards. At Penn State, he won the 2002 Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top college running back.... As expected, the city of San Diego filed a motion asking a judge to transfer a lawsuit filed by the Chargers from Los Angeles to San Diego. The motion was scheduled to be heard Jan. 16.
