The Atlanta Thrashers ended their scoring slump in a big way.

Marc Savard had the biggest game of his career with a goal and four assists, and Ilya Kovalchuk snapped out of an eight-game goal drought with two goals and three assists as the Thrashers overwhelmed the Pittsburgh Penguins, 7-4, Saturday night at Pittsburgh.

The NHL’s second-highest scoring team had been shut out in a team-record three consecutive games, but Ronald Petrovicky scored eight seconds after the opening faceoff to send the Thrashers to their first victory since beating Pittsburgh, 6-3, on Dec. 12.

“Even when we lose three games and don’t score, Bob [Coach Bob Hartley] tells us we’re still the same team, just keep going, work hard and make things happen,” Thrasher captain Shawn McEachern said. “Our power play was really going.”

Minnesota 5, Columbus 2 -- Wes Walz scored two goals at St. Paul, Minn., and the Wild ran its unbeaten streak to five games.

Columbus remained the only NHL team without a road win, falling to 0-11-1-2 away from Ohio.
