The Life and Works of Madlyn Rhue

Your Dec. 18 obituary for Madlyn Rhue did not mention an important facet of her life. She was a devoted, hard-working member of SHARE (Share Happily and Reap Endlessly), raising funds for local nonprofit organizations. I knew and worked with Rhue for a time in the early 1980s, when her disability was obvious but its true cause was still a secret. As a staff member of the Exceptional Children’s Foundation, I came to admire her dedication to human service and to depend on her when in the midst of a fundraising endeavor.

She was always cheerful, helpful, humorous and more gallant than any of us ever knew. Her own advancing illness did nothing to diminish her compassion for the mentally retarded and other members of suffering humanity. This brave and good woman should be remembered for her charitable works as well as for her beauty, talent and long acting career.
