8 Indonesians Indicted by U.N. for War Crimes
From Times Wire Reports
The U.N. charged former Indonesian armed forces chief Gen. Wiranto, six other military officers and a civilian official with crimes against humanity over violence surrounding East Timor’s 1999 vote for independence.
Indonesia and East Timor have no extradition treaty, and Indonesia has ignored previous indictments.
Stuart Alford, U.N. serious crimes unit prosecutor in East Timor, said it would be up to the world community to pressure Indonesia if it failed to cooperate.
