Berkeley Marina Is Searched for Woman
Detectives investigating the disappearance of a 27-year-old Modesto woman searched Saturday at a Berkeley marina where her husband told police he was fishing the day she was reported missing.
More than 40 law enforcement officers, aided by dogs, participated in the search for Laci Peterson, who is 8 months pregnant.
Officers also looked in areas of several counties, including Calaveras, Merced and Mariposa. Police urged rural residents around Modesto to check their property for any signs of Peterson.
“Continue to look in the obvious and less obvious places,” said Modesto Police Sgt. Ron Cloward, who is heading the effort.
Investigators said Peterson may have been a victim of foul play. She has not been seen since the morning of Christmas Eve, when her husband, Scott, said he left her at home while he went fishing. When he returned that evening, he reported her missing.
Police said Scott Peterson is not a suspect in the disappearance. The reward for information leading to her safe return is $500,000.
