A Monterey Park man was charged with drunk driving and of vehicular manslaughter after he lost control of his car and hit a tree, killing his passenger early Sunday, police said.
Phil Steyerman, 28, was driving north on Newport Boulevard near Industrial Way about 1:15 a.m. when the crash occurred, said Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Larry Hicks.
David Robison, 28, of Rancho Santa Margarita died at the scene, Hicks said. Steyerman was treated at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana for a concussion and a broken collarbone.
