Ivory Coast Peace Talks Launched Near Paris

Ivory Coast political leaders and rebel chiefs began talks near Paris to end a 4-month-old war that has killed hundreds.
French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin told delegates that only they could end the bloodshed. France is Ivory Coast’s former colonial ruler.
Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, who is not due to attend, has voiced confidence that the talks will result in his regaining control of rebel-held areas.
