Goalie Took It One Shot at a Time
This was familiar territory for Mighty Duck goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere.
Three periods, no goals.
Giguere stopped 33 shots for his sixth shutout of the season, tying Guy Hebert’s team record set in 1998-99, in giving the Ducks a 1-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. Yet, as in his previous shutouts, the thought of blanking the opponent never entered his mind.
“You never think about a shutout,” Giguere said. “You can’t even look at the clock, and think, ‘Oh, only 15 minutes to go.’ That’s not how it works. You focus on the next shot and at the end you look up at the scoreboard and see if you won.”
Giguere had the third-longest shutout streak in NHL history this season, going 237 minutes 7 seconds from Dec. 6-18. He had three shutouts in that stretch.
The Wild outshot the Ducks, 33-13, Saturday. Yet Giguere shut them out for the second time this season.
He beat them, 1-0, Nov. 10 in Anaheim.
