From Times Wire Reports

The alleged founder of the Real IRA, a breakaway Irish Republican Army faction, refused to attend his trial on a charge of directing terrorism. Michael McKevitt, 53, refused to leave the holding cell at Dublin’s Special Criminal Court, where a three-judge panel tries terrorism-related cases without a jury.

A day earlier, McKevitt fired his lawyers and said he no longer wanted to participate in his trial, which began June 18. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted. The key witness against McKevitt is an FBI-recruited American spy.
