44 People Reportedly Die in Tribal Fighting

The leader of a tribal faction in northeast Congo said 44 people died in fighting over the weekend. French troops preparing the way for a multinational force reached neighboring Uganda and planned to join an advance team that arrived last week in the northeast Congo town of Bunia, where fighting between rival Hema and Lendu tribes has killed hundreds.
Thomas Lubanga, leader of the Hema group, the Union of Congolese Patriots, said 38 Lendu fighters, three Hema fighters and three civilians died.
