Man Held in Killing of Assistance Dog
A San Bernardino man has been charged with deliberately hitting and killing a disabled woman’s assistance dog, then veering back and trying to hit her as well, police said.
Penny Grant, 59, was walking the dog, which she was training on a grassy median on Mountain View Avenue in San Bernardino on Saturday morning. The dog barked at a van being driven by Clemente Collazo, 18, police said. Collazo drove his van onto the median, killed the dog and tried to hit Grant before fleeing, police said.
He was later arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and cruelty to animals.
