Disney Should Trash Disposable DVD Idea
Re: “Disney’s Rental DVDs Made to Self-Destruct,” May 17:
I have to ask what plans Walt Disney Co. has to expand the landfills that will be full of these disposable DVDs. Is the desire for market expansion so great that it must add to the tons of “indestructible” plastics clogging our environment?
I don’t think it is too much trouble to return a rented DVD to the local video store. At the least, it teaches young people a tiny bit of responsibility. I think Disney is sending the wrong message to its intended audience, children and young adults. This world is not disposable.
With corporate size comes responsibility; Disney should be more farsighted in its approach to reaching audiences and the impact it has on our society.
