Lawmakers’ Car Funds Said to Be Still in Budget

While making broad cuts in spending to balance the budget, state legislators kept $850,000 budgeted for state-funded vehicles for themselves, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Of the 253 state legislators, 108 drive cars from the state fleet, while 53 others lease cars privately at a cost to taxpayers, the Inquirer reported.
For example, the state pays $600 a month for a 2001 Mercedes-Benz for Republican Sen. Ed Helfrick. He says his constituents know what cars he drives.
