Woman Gets Probation for Leaving Baby
Rosemary Gutierrez, 28, of West Hills was sentenced Monday to five years’ probation for abandoning her newborn baby boy in a hospital parking lot last year.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Barry Taylor also ordered Gutierrez to pay a $200 fine and undergo psychological counseling, said Jane Robison, a district attorney’s spokeswoman.
Gutierrez pleaded no contest March 14 to child endangerment.
The healthy boy was found in a Robinsons-May bag in the parking lot of West Hills Hospital and Medical Center by a nurse on Feb. 4, 2002.
He was placed with the county’s Department of Children and Family Services, but in March was returned to his mother, who also has a 6-year-old child, officials said.
