Mexican President Vicente Fox was admitted to the hospital for urgent back surgery after a medical team detected a herniated disk in his spine. The problem was causing severe pain in his left leg and was affecting his ability to walk.

The surgery is to take place at 8 a.m. today. It is expected to last about three hours, doctors said.
