Justice Was Served
Re “Sheriff’s Department Faces Scrutiny in Fatal Standoff,” Oct. 28: Donald Kueck had previously killed a deputy sheriff. He fired a gun at officers from his hide-out. The Sheriff’s Department tried to negotiate with him for 8 1/2 hours. At some point enough is enough. Police resources are strained. We need the deputies on patrol protecting us from other bad guys. Too bad for Kueck. He could have given up and lived. We should thank the department for protecting us, and we might even be a little grateful to Kueck for saving taxpayers the million-plus dollars it would have cost for his trial.
