David Aebischer’s second shutout was just what the Colorado Avalanche needed. Watching Paul Kariya skate off the ice holding his wrist wasn’t.

Aebischer stopped 29 shots and Teemu Selanne and Steve Konowalchuk scored 50 seconds apart, but Kariya’s injury took some of the luster off Colorado’s 3-0 victory over the Dallas Stars at Denver on Saturday night.

“Disaster,” said Selanne, who scored his fourth goal of the season. “Right when we were supposed to get going again. I was so happy to see him back, and everybody else too.”

Kariya re-injured his right wrist late in the first period after being checked into the boards by Brenden Morrow. X-rays were negative, but it wasn’t good news considering Kariya just returned Thursday night against Phoenix after being sidelined 10 games because of a sprained wrist.
